For the release of Yuppycult’s new song, ‘Love Me Right’, we wanted to tell a powerful, and unfortunately all too common story of a dysfunctional and abusive relationship. Too often domestic abuse is painted with a simple brush–women are asked “why didn’t you just leave?”, underestimating the complexity and challenge of real feelings that are involved and the real dangers that can come from leaving. We understand that this is a sensitive issue and can be triggering, though we wanted to address it directly; to create a visceral reaction for those watching, in an effort not to avoid the seriousness of the topic. We hope this video can raise awareness of this issue and continue an important dialogue.
