LOVE AND EXISTENTIAL MUSINGS

MAX STOSSEL

About The Book

I have a complicated relationship with sharing poetry in a form that is not spoken or adapted to film. Sometimes when I put words on a page it feels to me like they lack the essence they meant to contain. This book is a collection of instances in which the message survived the journey. Some of these poems survived the trip with flying colors, others are wounded soldiers, limping across the finish line. Some are observations on the modern world, some are heartfelt, and some are playful. Regardless, they long to deliver you something, to release this chapter of creativity into the world, and to immortalize several of the most important relationships in my life. I hope you’ll take in whatever is yours to receive.

Late

I hate time...

It keeps teaching me
these lessons that could have saved me From suffering,
But hides them inconveniently
on the other side of suffering.

Did I really need all that pain
To learn this thing?
Time, couldn’t you have told me then? Beforehand, you couldn’t let me in? You couldn’t wave your hand and Stop my fall before it could begin?

Must so much rip apart to grow?
I guess that’s just what muscles do. I forget the heart’s a muscle too.

Ctrplr - Connecting The World By A Thread

If caterpillars had social media I think there’d be more caterpillar suicide.

Maybe that’s dark, but I think some of them would take their lives.

They’d scroll through feeds of the most beautiful butterflies,

And compare themselves as though they didn’t lead completely different lives.

As though the point of life was to be beautiful all the fucking time.
